Nail trends I'm trying this summer
1.Whiter shades of pale
The pale manicure -- a toasty taupe, ballet-slipper pink, or even pure white -- is called a classic for a reason. It looks chic, goes with everything, and because chips are less noticeable, it lasts longer without touch-ups, making it infinitely wearable and timeless.
2.Shades of brightness
If neon is the way you want to go,
you'll have plenty of choices -- from '80s orange to more subtle (but
still juicy) popsicle brights. A favorite collection of manicurists is
NCLA's Summer of '69 collection. They're pretty, trendy brights with
cheeky names such as "I'm with the Band" (pictured). OPI's "Fly" from
the January Nicki Minaj collection, a gorgeous opaque turquoise, is
still a sought-after shade, say top manicurists.
"The really bright, nearly neons are always big for the summer, because they're fun!" says Fricke.

3.Get cracking

3.Get cracking
Beige and aqua are pretty and all,
but sometimes a gal's in the mood for something dark and spooky. Enter
OPI's Shatter collection, which dries to a cracked-window appearance
once you get the hang of it (it's easy).
"Shatter is applied over completely dry nail polish," explains Fricke. "Use one thick coat, getting as close to the edges as possible, as there's shrinkage when it dries. The more it dries, the more it'll crack/shatter."
Once you've achieved your desired crackage, apply a top coat to seal it in and stop the process, Fricke says.
